From thermal cutting to the perfect component: deburring and rounding of warped heavy plates

Whether you need to deburr distorted flame-cut or plasma blanks, remove hard laser burrs or achieve precise edge rounding - WEBER knows your requirements and offers a wide range of standardised entry-level machines through to customised individual solutions.

With innovative grinding and deburring technology, we optimise your machining process: less effort, perfect results - all in a single pass or without prior turning, if required.

With WEBER, you can turn challenges into productive processes. Our technology ensures consistent quality, reduces downtime and makes even difficult machining steps predictable and reliable - regardless of material thickness or distortion.

Warped sheets: Height levelling up to 10 mm

Our movable units with WEBER float technology automatically compensate for distortions of up to 10 mm on the workpiece surface. Even heavily distorted sheets - especially with flame and plasma cuts - are processed reliably and evenly. Time-consuming straightening work is completely eliminated. The machine adapts flexibly to every workpiece so that you can start the efficient machining process straight away and save valuable time and resources.

Sanding on both sides in one pass

Thanks to modular machine technology, manual turning of the workpieces, which often weigh several tonnes, is completely eliminated: The top and bottom sides are processed in a single machine pass - for maximum efficiency and significantly increased work safety.

The unique combination of planetary heads, flexible bolts and double-rotating brushes enables you to achieve perfect slag removal, precise surface processing and exact edge rounding.

Save valuable time and resources with our efficient system.

Selected planetary heads for flawless results

Perfect deburring of flame-cut blanks

Large flame-cut parts, thick plates and hard burrs - thermal cutting processes such as flame or plasma cutting not only leave behind slag, but often also material distortions of up to 10 mm. The requirements are particularly high in bridge, ship and steel construction as well as in the offshore industry: large workpiece dimensions, considerable differences in thickness and manual turning processes make efficiency even more difficult.

With our innovative WEBER planetary head units, you can master these challenges: Multidirectional machining removes burrs and slag in a reliable process that is gentle on the tool. The result is a flawlessly deburred workpiece - perfectly prepared for all subsequent processes.

Beating the giants: Efficient slag removal

Thanks to our WEBER float technology, our units adapt dynamically and automatically compensate for height differences. This eliminates the need for time-consuming levelling work and you can start the efficient machining process straight away. Our sophisticated technology removes even heavy slag effortlessly and reaches every part of the workpiece thanks to the unique planetary head - for perfect results, ready for the next process step.

Fully automated feeding, turning and stacking

Powerful industrial robots feed and stack even heavy and large-format heavy plates safely and precisely. In combination with an innovative workpiece turner, components can be turned automatically so that both sides are deburred in a continuous process - without manual intervention. This reduces set-up times, increases productivity, reduces the workload on your employees and ensures consistently high quality. Our intelligent workpiece recognition with 3D image processing adapts flexibly to different geometries and sizes - versatile and future-proof. For an optimum combination of automation, process reliability and cost-effectiveness.

FAQ on the topic of "heavy plate"

Heavy plate processing is the processing of thick metal sheets, which are usually thicker than 3 mm. These sheets are used in various industrial applications such as bridge building, shipbuilding, construction machinery and steel construction, as well as in the offshore industry.

WEBER MK series
The WEBER MK series is designed for processing the thickest, heaviest and most warped sheet metal and sheet metal parts. With up to five processing stations per frame and a particularly robust design, it masters even the most massive parts with impressive ease.

WEBER PT series
The WEBER PT series comprises the latest generation of universal grinding machines. They are ideal for deburring, rounding, descaling and surface grinding of fine and heavy plates. Up to five grinding stations enable all processing variants. The WEBER stud grinding beam is also available for flame-cut and plasma-cut heavy plates.

WEBER TTSC series
The WEBER TTSC series is our compact class and the ideal entry-level solution for deburring plasma and light flame-cut parts. In the first unit, the slag is removed using a hammer tool, while the last unit takes care of edge rounding. An optional contact roller in the centre increases the flexibility of the machine and effortlessly removes hard laser burrs or laser spatter, for example.

Planetary head system
For flawless, even edge rounding on all sides of thick sheets, WEBER uses a compact planetary head unit that works either from above or below and thus delivers definable, reproducible results.
P2 Standard: Single-row system with seamlessly overlapping brush heads, sealed gears and 2 mm radius in one step - low-wear and easy to maintain.
- P2 slag hammer: Same design with integrated hammers at a 90° angle for efficient slag removal on oxy-fuel and plasma-cut edges.
- P6 Double row: Six brushes per carrier, electric height adjustment, programmable and adjustable for higher performance.

WEBER Float Technology
The floating units compensate for sheet metal distortions of up to 10 mm fully automatically. Even heavily distorted parts are deburred and rounded.

Contact roller unit "D"
Rubberised sanding rollers generate the pressure by lowering below the thickness of the workpiece. They remove burrs and thick laser splashes evenly for a smooth finish and can be precisely readjusted at any time thanks to electrical adjustment.

Combined unit for stud grinding beam "STC"
Hardened pins press down the sanding belt with millimetre precision and automatically compensate for thickness tolerances. Ideal for thick, uneven sheets, the system impresses with its consistent sanding quality, high throughput and long belt service life.

MRB unit "R2"
Two rotating heads, each with two interlocking brushes, ensure even rounding of all inside and outside edges. Compactly combinable, it works gently on coated or galvanised surfaces without damaging the coating.

Cross belt unit "C"
Cross-belt sanding with up to 10 mm warpage: By using only half the belt width, the front edge remains above the workpieces, threading is prevented and multi-track loading is possible. The control system reminds you to turn the belt at intervals.

Elliptical disc unit "Eu"
Bottom-grinding with elliptical disc brushes arranged in two rows, which produce counter-rotating processing despite co-rotation. Narrow pressure rollers enable the processing of parts from Ø 100 mm up to large sheets.

Sanding on both sides in one pass
The modular machine design allows simultaneous processing of the top and bottom sides without reclamping - for minimum set-up times and maximum efficiency.
