Tradition meets progress

Based in Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse Lignal develops and produces sustainable coatings, stains and oils for innovative interior surfaces. However, the family-run company does not see itself exclusively as a manufacturer of these materials – around 450 employees work here every day, often in direct collaboration with the customer, to develop and manufacture the best possible product that customers need for further processing. The family business currently has the 3rd and 4th generation at the helm: Hans-Jürgen Hesse, Jens Hesse and Hannah Hesse. In addition to the head office in Hamm, there is another branch office in Munich as well as further company headquarters in France, the Benelux and Dubai. Moreover, there are mergers with companies in India and China. The company's approximately 5,000 customers from the industry and the trades mainly include architects, planners, automotive suppliers, glass finishers and interior designers, from simple carpenters to luxury interior designers for yachts and residences.
But the Hesse company's claim goes even further: The business sees itself not only as a pure developer or manufacturer, but also as a source of inspiration whose drive is to make the world a little more beautiful and worth living in, by refining wood. "This is how rooms become oases of well-being and houses are turned into homes," says Dirk Conrad, head of application technology at Hesse Lignal. "As a specialist in our field, i.e. in the field of intelligent and sustainable coating solutions, it is of course particularly important for us to also work together with other specialists so that we can always arrive at the best result for our customers. For example, we have been working with Hans Weber Maschinenfabrik for more than 15 years now, and the technology that WEBER brings to the table is simply unique, which is something to be proud of."
In the technical centre of the Hesse Lignal premises, there are currently two WEBER automatic sanding machines of the type KSF-1350 by the Kronach-based mechanical engineering company. The technical centre forms the link between the laboratory and the sales department. More specifically, this means: The sales staff is aware of customers' wishes as well as the current requirements in the market. The laboratory subsequently develops the new coatings in consultation with the technical centre staff, which are then tested for functionality within the technical centre, including the use of WEBER sanding machines.

"What we appreciate most about working with WEBER is their professionalism and constant innovation. Even several years after the machines were delivered, we are still in close contact with the staff in Kronach, so that we can meet every customer request and every requirement, no matter how specific. The employees think along about how to achieve new, unique grinding results with possible further developments or retrofits, or through add-ons. I have never had this experience with any other machine manufacturer," says Conrad. "The people at WEBER are incredibly smart, with first-class knowledge in their field."
Sustainability is an important priority in Hamm. In addition to using electric cars and running their own electricity production through a photovoltaic system, Hesse has set itself the goal of gradually converting all paints and stains in its range to modern, water-based systems by 2030. By that time, products containing solvents, which can damage the environment and human health, will be completely obsolete.
Hesse Lignal continues to expand and is always looking for employees. Vacancies in the various business areas can be found here: www.hesse-lignal.com/karriere
